Change, Anyone?: Career and life change
ers during the "Greening of America" decades ago, is now
encountering its first serious mid-life crisis, and finding few
answers. The prospect that a career can also be a "calling" is not
a new idea, but it is attracting many new adherents fresh from the
corporate wars and looking to make sense of their lives. Examples
of this phenomenon include the retired engineer who is now a
Peace Corp volunteer, and the wealthy lawyer turned Episcopal
priest. If the trend continues, many others will embark on this jour-
ney.
Lastly, how do we make sense of it all? One recent development
in particular is encouraging. More and more people are turning to
career development professionals in their search for answers to
basic life and career questions. Most realize the value of a skilled
and objective mentor in finding the answers they need to succeed
in their quest.
