What is Career Counseling?: What's it all about?

management coach, help their clients solve work related prob-
lems. Many coaches work as private consultants.
The Career Counselor is a professional counselor with a specialty
in career development. They may serve in any or all of the above
roles. Career Counselors also work one on one with individual
clients and with small groups. They may teach and conduct work-
shops. Their role depends upon the career and personal needs of
the client. They address such subjects as career assessment,
including testing and results interpretation; clarification of person-
al and career related values; identification of interests; selection of
career goals and objectives; development of job search strategies,
including resume writing and interviewing; supportive career tran-
sition management; and comprehensive career development plan-
ning.
A professional Career Counselor can also assist the client in navi-
gating the difficult life and career changes associated with job
loss. One on one consultations can address complex issues and
chronic work related problems. Career counselors can help identi-
fy near term career search strategies that can produce immediate
results.
