7.4. CONCLUSIONS
A wide variety of buffer types are encountered in digital systems. No attempt has been made
to catalog the various types here. However, the same basic concepts outlined in the
example buffers of this chapter can be used to form linear or behavioral models of any
general buffer type. One continuing standard started in the 1990s for behavioral models is
known as IBIS (I/O Buffer Information Specification). Information on this model format is
widely available. Many simulation tool vendors support this format. Behavioral models can
also be created for inputs; however, modeling inputs to buffers is generally not nearly as
critical as the drive characteristics.
