Go Wireless with UABWifi! - contd.
Configure Windows 2000 for wireless
* In order to use Windows 2000 on UABWifi, you
must have at least Service Pack 4 installed from
Windows updates. The necessary updates can be
obtained by clicking the Windows Update icon on the
Start menu, or by going directly to
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsupdate
. Keeping
Windows up-to-date with Windows Update is highly
recommended.
Windows 2000 users must use the software provided
by your wireless card manufacturer. Generally the
software will be included in the hardware packaging
- however, users of older hardware are encouraged
to check their product's manufacturer for software
and driver updates.
Follow the documentation that came with your
hardware. The manufacturer's web site might also be
able to provide troubleshooting tips. Also feel free to
call the AskIT Help Desk if you experience problems.
Configure Windows XP for wireless
1
Make sure your wireless card is inserted into
the proper slot and turn on your computer.
XP should automatically detect that there is a
wireless network nearby and bring up a balloon on
the lower right portion of your screen:
Click on the balloon to see the list of available
wireless networks.
Note: If you don`t get a balloon, you are either not in
a UABWiFi wireless zone, or your wireless card is not
working properly!
2
In the Choose a wireless network
window, the uabWiFi network should be at
the top of the list. If the uabWiFi network is not
there, try clicking the Refresh network list item
under Network Tasks (left panel). If the uabWiFi
network still doesn't show up, you are not in a
UABWiFi zone.
Click to highlight the uabWiFi network, then click
Connect.
