Summer 2009
GUIDE Youth Services, Community
Based Prevention, and Early
Intervention Services held the 1
st
Annual Summer Fun Program for
six weeks during July and August.
By all accounts, it was a huge
success. On Tuesdays and
Thursdays from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00
p.m., GUIDE's Gaithersburg,
Germantown, and Olney Coun-
selors hosted an average of nine
children, seven through ten years
of age. This program was offered
to Regional Youth Services and
Linkages to Learning participants
free of charge. Staff collaborated
with Montgomery County Public
Schools (MCPS) Division of Food
and Nutrition Services' Summer
Food Lunch Distribution to provide
free breakfast and lunch for the
participants and GUIDE provided
additional snacks. GUIDE Youth
Services also collaborated with
Family Services, Inc., for
additional space for the indoor
activities.
Liberty's Promise, a non-profit
focused on young immigrants,
funded a high school intern, Silvia
Barahona, to work 20 hours per
week assisting the counselors. In
