The next steps for Building Linkages are to:
·
Form a consortium representing education, employer groups, labor and
government partners that will establish challenging standards for each of the
career clusters;
·
Create a broad framework that includes careers from entry-level through
management/professional while identifying appropriate career and educational
pathways;
·
Define methods of assessing and documenting student achievement that are
recognized by employers and postsecondary institutions;
·
Develop implementation strategies to roll-out career cluster models in all 50
states
Five clusters are now being developed -- manufacturing; transportation/ logistics
and distribution services; information technology services; health services; and arts and
communications services. The other 11 clusters are: agriculture and natural resources;
construction; wholesale /retail sales and services; financial services; hospitality and
tourism; business and administrative services; human services; legal and protective
services; scientific research, engineering and technical services; education and training
services; public administration/government services (Ulloa, 2000).
