often a waste of time since training is not always the best solution to close a gap. ISD
professionals should be involved at the beginning of the ADDIE process, not starting
from the middle.

Application of Linkage Models
EB currently uses many linkage models successfully. Since EB is such a large
organization, many models are utilized. The apprenticeship model is used to allow
skilled employees to train learners on the job. EB also uses the model of technical skill
updating to ensure its instructors maintain sharp skills and knowledge of new
developments.
EB currently has a need for many new employees. They could save money by
having a business/industry partnership. Students could benefit by getting good jobs and
EB would benefit by not needing to train a low level learner. Shadowing would be
beneficial for learners at the lowest level and even when a new employee first arrives.
This would allow them to get a general idea of what work they will be doing and it would
let them see the complex jobs they will be able to perform in the future. This can
motivate learners straight out of high school by breaking up the required training on
theory.
Summary
EB is a very large organization and has complex training departments. Their
training depends on the amount of work that the shipyard has currently and in the near
future. EB adapts itself to this by using on-loan instructors. A core permanent group of
