WED interns should not log `intern' hours in the daily performance of their current
employed positions, nor may they replace another employee in routine performance of
job tasks. However, internship within a current employment setting is permitted if the
project is new to the intern, provides a valuable learning experience using WED skills,
and (preferably) is related to a different department/unit and under direction of a
different supervisor. The project's learning experience for the intern is our most
important concern.

Past intern experiences have included assisting host organizations with:
·
identifying sources for grant funds for special projects
·
writing proposals for funding
·
conducting organization image-audit interviews & questionnaires
·
collecting, organizing & interpreting interview/questionnaire data
·
conducting task analysis reviews & validating training content
·
writing & packaging print training materials
·
delivery (or assisting in delivery) of training
·
evaluating & revising pilot (or other) training materials
·
conducting
follow-up
studies
·
creating PowerPoint presentation materials
·
creating
game-format
training
·
writing or revising continuity manuals
·
writing & validating job descriptions
·
revising occupationally specific test materials
·
conducting job & wage/salary analysis
·
creating procedures & operations documents for job functions

WED internships apply to activities for and with adult populations (18 years of age
and older) in settings related to workforce training, preparation for employment, and
related programs receiving state or federal occupational/vocational funding. Intern
supervisors must be capable of leading and directing the learning experience. Projects
should fall within business, industry, government and other public sectors, but not in
public school k-12 sites or private/membership organizations. The internship
coordinator must approve each site and project.
(For more information, contact the SIUC WED internship coordinator at the e-mail
provided by the student.)
