Acknowledgements
I would like to acknowledge the help which I received
over the several years it took to write this memoir. Assistance
was provided by my wife, Ellen Miller Coile; my daughter,
Jennifer Norah Miller Coile, her husband, John Robrock and
daughter Sienna; my son, Jonathan Roy Miller Coile and his
wife, Wendy; my son Andrew Cleven Miller Coile; my son
Christopher Christophersen Coile and his wife Susie; my
nephew Nessly Coile Craig and his wife Sue and son, David;
my daughter-in-law Lori Coile and friend Gary Pearson;
my grandson Zachary Coile and his wife, Diane; and my
granddaughter Courtney Coile and her husband Henry. I
didn't realize that writing my memoir would turn out to have
such support from my family.
I would also like to thank Ilia Thompson and my fellow
students in her Memoir Writing Class at the Carmel Foundation
in Carmel-by-the-Sea every Monday afternoon from 1 to 3pm
for their cheerful comments and criticisms when I would
read aloud sections of my memoir. I would explain that I was
attempting to record events in my life so that Nathaniel, my
great grandson could read something about my interesting
life.
I would also like to acknowledge the friendship and help I
received from the following individuals in my career: Timothy
McFaddan, Xavier Maruyama, Ph.D, Edie MacDonald,
